In 1991 the German postal service commemorated
the 200 year anniversary of the premiere of Mozart‘s operetta „Magic Flute“.
It was also in commemoration of Mozart´s tragic death which happened
200 years before the stamp was issued in 1791. A picture of Wolfgang Amadeus
Mozart is shown on the 100 Pfennig stamp (100 Pfennig = 1 Deutsche Mark)
of this single stamp sheet. The border of the stamp sheet features Papageno
with the magic flute and the program of the "Magic flute" premiere. On
the day of issue a limited number of stamp sheets bearing a special hand
cancel and a hologram of Mozart were applied to a printed card. This card
was issued and distributed by Deutsche Postphilatelie GmbH, Wermsdorf/Sachsen.
