In May, 1999 non-topical, pre-paid parcel labels bearing a hologram for protection against falsification were gradually introduced. These labels do not have special designs or  validity for unlimited weight. They are sold without shipping boxes and include areas for adding postage fees according to the weight of the parcels. Currently two national labels are available. One for handing in at a post office,  and one for home parcel pickup. The labels are valid for any parcel within Germany up to weight of 4 kg. If the parcel weight exceeds the 4 kg weight then further stamps have to be applied in specified areas to indicate correct postage payment. The area is designated for a single stamp and the labels will usually not have a post office date cancellation. The name of the product "FREEWAY" was selected as these parcels can be handed in at any post office without waiting in any line or at a desk - they are handed in or deposited in special drop-off boxes at major post offices.
